Woodland in early autumn

Trying hard to capture the magic of sunlight in the woodland.  There are so many colours in early autumn but they don't always 'come out' in a photo.  I have done some work on this in Lightroom and Photoshop to enhance the tones a bit.  I hope I haven't gone OTT - the purple in the shadow looks a bit Hockney, doesn't it?!

Haworth 1940s weekend 2012

Readers of my other blog 'Salt & Light' will have seen photos of this year's fantastic Haworth 1940s weekend.  (See posts starting Monday 21 May). I took so many pictures that I thought some more deserved sharing, if only to show the wonderfully authentic costumes that so many people had put together.  It was pretty impossible to record everyone's name - most of the photos were just quickly snapped as people posed and at an event like that with so many crowds you can't start 'directing' people too much.  It's a case of 'take a quick snap and move on'.  But if anyone knows any of these folks, let me know!

Third generation

Just for comparison purposes, here's one of me!  I was a bit older when this was taken, about a year old, so I had more hair.  I think we all have the same chin!!

Bilbo Baggins and the 'Elland'

Saltaire World Heritage Celebrations 2012

One of the highlights of this year's celebrations was the visit of the horseboat 'Elland', towed by Bilbo Baggins, owned by Sue Day of the Horseboating Society.  It's the first time a horseboat has visited this stretch of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal in more than half a century.  The last boathorse on this canal retired in the 1960s.  The horse was harnessed up on the towpath in the centre of Saltaire and he hauled the boat right up to Hirst Wood Lock and back, making a couple of trips, much to the delight of the many visitors and other passers-by on the towpath.

For more details about the Horseboating Society, please look at their website.

I have posted other photos taken at Saltaire's World Heritage Weekend on my main blog 'Salt & Light' (from Sunday 22 April onwards).

Portrait of my toes

I had an invitation to Betsy's pedicure party.  Now, my feet are not my favourite part of my body,  especially my nails (and I certainly wouldn't inflict them on a beauty therapist for a pro job!)  - but I do paint them in summer when they're 'on show'.  So I dug out the pink glunk and rather inexpertly dabbed it on.  I suppose, for feet that have done almost 60 years service, they could be worse - no bunions or corns!  But they seemed to need a rather soft focus effect to dare to bare for a party, even  a virtual one.  I've often wondered how to do a proper 'high-key' image.  I played around with this but I don't think I did it properly.  I guess there's a tutorial out there somewhere if only I could find it....

Ah well, let's make the most of the party and get dancing!
